I am spending February and March on a research stay at the Scuola Normale Superiore, Faculty of Political and Social Sciences in Florence! It is an extremely intense and inspiring time of academic work and international cooperation.
In Florence, I am developing my skills in feminist political research, collaborating with Emanuela Lombardo. At the same time, I am deepening my knowledge of labor process theory in collaboration with Guglielmo Meardi and Vincenzo Maccarrone.
I am also observing the activities of FIRE – Working Group on Feminism, Intersectionality and Gender – coordinated by Daniela Chironi, as well as some of the activities of the Centre on Social Movement Studies (COSMOS), which are an important reference point for research on social movements and social change.
Above all, this stay is a space for intensive conceptual work for me. I am developing my own analytical model in research on the impact of professional and gender structures on the micro-actions of women who are successful in academia and business, and on the mechanisms of their resilience. I am particularly interested in the tension between structure and agency: how institutional and organizational power arrangements shape strategies for action, redefinitions of success, and ways of coping with pressure and inequalities, including outside the workplace, in the context of emotional labor.
This inspiring experience brings back memories: exactly a year ago, in February and March 2025, I was on a research stay at the Central European University in Vienna. Today, I am inspired by the research environment in Florence – its interdisciplinarity, openness, and unique atmosphere.
I am grateful for the time of other wonderful researchers that I get here, for the opportunity to work in such an intellectually stimulating environment, but also excited about the next stages of my work.
